Crews began working to open the Wildflower Garden Center on Old Knoxville Highway where Innovative Garden Center was located before moving to the Midland Plaza.
“We’re going to open just after Spring because obviously the building has been sitting there for so long and nothing is really up to code,” said owner Amber Houser.
While most of the original pergola had to be demolished and the giant wisteria is in poor condition, Houser said they worked hard to salvage as much as they could to retain some of the history of the place.
Houser said in addition to the nursery, they plan to include a coffee shop and cafe inside the main building to serve Rockford and East Maryville customers. Houser is opening the Center in partnership with the Bright Grove Group (Bright Grove Landscaping) of Knoxville.
